Sustainable Aviation Fuel Act 2026
The Sustainable Aviation Fuel Act 2026 establishes requirements for UK airlines and fuel suppliers to gradually increase their use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), jet fuel produced from renewable sources like used cooking oil, agricultural waste, or synthetic processes, rather than conventional fossil fuels. The bill sets binding blending mandates, requiring a percentage of all jet fuel used in UK aviation to be SAF, with targets increasing yearonyear. It also includes investment incentives for SAF production facilities in the UK and establishes certification standards to ensure environmental credibility. The aim is to reduce aviation's carbon emissions while building a domestic SAF industry.
