Liz Jarvis
Liz Jarvis
MP for Eastleigh
Liberal Democrat

Political Biography

Liz Jarvis did not take the usual road into Parliament. She started as a secretary, became a senior social worker, took her degree with the Open University while working, and voted Labour her whole life until she joined the Liberal Democrats in 2018. A borough councillor by 2022, she won Eastleigh back from the Conservatives in 2024 and got on with it: 505 written questions, 420 of 429 divisions, a seat on the Culture, Media and Sport committee, work on the BBC charter review and grassroots sport. There is no scandal and no grandstanding here. If there is an uncomfortable note it belongs to the party more than the member: the Liberal Democrats built their 2024 gains on candidates like Jarvis, and will find out whether competence alone holds a seat like Eastleigh when the Conservatives regroup. Verdict: came through ordinary work rather than the Westminster pipeline, and legislates like someone who has met the people politics usually abstracts.
