Ayoub Khan
MP for Birmingham Perry Barr
Independent

Political Biography

Ayoub Khan took Birmingham Perry Barr in 2024 as an independent, overturning a 15,000 Labour majority to win by 507 votes, a barrister and former councillor who had quit the Liberal Democrats saying they would not let him speak freely about Gaza. He speaks about it constantly, and that is both his mandate and his difficulty. In a TikTok video posted after the 7 October attacks, later deleted, Khan cast doubt on whether Hamas had beheaded or raped anyone, saying he had yet to see the evidence. A United Nations mission later reported that it found reasonable grounds to believe conflict related sexual violence, including rape, occurred during the attacks. When the Liberal Democrats said he had apologised and agreed to antisemitism training, he denied both. He has voted 207 of 429 divisions. Verdict: elected to say what Westminster avoided, then damaged himself by treating atrocity reporting as something to litigate on TikTok.
