Ben Rimmington joined MHCLG as jobshare Director General for Buildings, Fire and Resilience in February 2026. He shares the role with Katie Farrington CB.

His previous roles include:

• Director General, Net Zero Buildings and Industry at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ)

• Director, Roads Safety Standards & Services in the Department for Transport, including oversight of all EU Exit/Transition and Covid response work relating to roads

• Director, Business Environment, in the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), leading on company law and corporate governance

• Deputy Director roles in BIS/DTI leading on business finance & tax, local growth policy, EU employment law and sponsorship of the automotive sector.

Ben is based in the MHCLG Leeds office and has two adult children.
